You're right- it's just a smack in the head for the Republicans, mixed results for the Democrats. Specter is still right of center and would probably vote in a clique with the likes of Nelson and Bayh, in a pinch.

Actually, Senators Specter, Snow and Collins are more likely to vote for the Democratic agenda than Nelson and Bayh. It is up to Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the White House (Rahm Emanuel in particular) to crack the whip and keep the red Democrats in line.

The window of opportunity to pass some crucial legislations like health care reform may be short lived. The super majority may not last after the 2010 mid term elections. But I am hoping that 2010 will see further decline of the GOP nationwide.
