Can someone, anyone, explain to me why it would be so awful to have democracy in Iraq? Obviously, democracy in Iraq is a good thing. The thinganswer that american voters want to know is how do you achieve democracy in Iraq if U.S. troops withdraw?

Nobody has argued that democracy would be a bad thing in Iraq or anywhere else. But doesn't the method of forcing democracy down someone's throat at the point of a gun appear as particularly ironic to you? Especially when it is attempted under false pretexts?

Yes, Iraqis will probably not go down the path of Jeffersonian democracy overnight if the US troops leave. But neither will they if the troops stay. Get ready for a fractured country - Sunni, Shia and Kurdish territories. They will find their peace in their own way, in their own time after they get sick of mutual bloodshed. There is not a thing we can do now. Not after Bush's immoral motive for attacking Iraq has been exposed.

As for your other comment exhorting "us" to become intelligent about winning elections? What else do you think Clinton's message was to the Democrats in his wonderfully liberating tirade?
