The comments are hilarious! They'd also make a nice heuristic for an introduction to scientific method. "We experimented with it...," writes one naysayer. Even I can tell that the "experiment" would have been less than well controlled. How I wish we'd learn that listening to some second or third tier composer--Telemann is among my favorites--or some way-out modernist--Milton Babbitt, say--actually works.

I agree, though, that death metal and its legion can be salutary.

I've never listened to death metal, but remain convinced that the clanging of temple bells during the prayer ceremonies in some S.Indian temples will give them a fair run for matching decibel levels. I can almost guarantee that those were the cause of of the tinnitus I was diagnosed with many years ago.
