Omar Ali,

"But in the long term, change is bound to come. Pakistan does not exist on an island apart from the world. And the world is moving on from blasphemy laws and apostasy laws into the domain of capitalist individualism, if not yet into the realm of democracy or socialism."

From your mouth to God's ears.

Agree with Norman. But the way things are going, it may be a long time before decency, common sense and pragmatist self interest prevail. It started with Salman Rushdie and now we are all paying the price in one way or the other. Although minorities live in fear of majority religious fundamentalism world over, Muslims in theocratic Islamic nations are some of the worst victims and perpetrators of the mindless religious persecutions. Lynching, stoning, flagellation and suicide bombings are only the outward manifestations of the violent and hateful religious expression. Fear, paranoia and imprisonment of the mind may be the more painful outcome of this systematic and cynical manipulation of the public mind through obscurantism.

Omar : Please promise me that you will never again use the ugly expression 'extra-judicial execution'. You'll be doing your cause a favor by using the ugly word 'lynching'.
