Eulogy to be delivered upon the ASSASSINATION and burial of Frances Fox Pivens: (Norman Costa)
Friends, Americans, countrymen, listen to me;
I come to bury Frances Fox Pivens, not to praise her;
The evil that women do lives after them,
The good is often interred with their bones,
So let it be with Pivens ...
The noble Glenn Beck
Has told you Pivens advocated violence:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously has Pivens answered it ...
Here, under leave of Glenn Beck and the rest,
(For Glenn Beck is an honorable man;
So are they all honorable at Fox News)
Come I to speak in Pivens's funeral ...
She was my friend, faithful and just to me:
But Glenn Beck says she favored violence;
And Glenn Beck is an honorable man….
She taught ideas of justice and fairness to students,
Whose debates did the political discourse fill:
Did this in Pivens seem violent?
When that the poor have cried, Pivens has wept:
Violence should be made of sterner stuff:
Yet Glenn Beck says she was pro violence;
And Glenn Beck is an honorable man.
You all did see that at the political convention
Three times she was offered nomination for high office,
Which she did refuse three times: was this pro violence?
Yet Glenn Beck says she advocated violence;
And, sure, he is an honorable man.
I speak not to disprove what Glenn Beck spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love her once, not without cause:
What cause withholds you then to mourn for her?
O judgment! you are fled to brutish beasts,
And people have lost their reason….
Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with Pivens,
And I must pause till it come back to me.
