Thanks to Steve Hynd, my former blog host, the video below provides a good place to start for anyone seeking to understand better the backstory and other angles to the conflict in Syria. It is being called a civil war but that simple description is misleading. There are many players on the field, most of whom have living (and dying) representatives inside Syria, but a few of which have money in the game but no skin at all, hoping to tip the balance one way or another for an outcome having more to do with interests than any purported humanitarian concerns.
Here are the two top comments currently displayed at You Tube. They need no deep analysis from me but I find them very telling, basically calling the Washington lobbyist a pimp.
>>One of Hillary Clintons hired help to raise money to kill more innocent people in Syria. We all know the FSA are killing innocent people and only today set off a car bomb at a funeral killing children. Obama and Clinton will go down as the most evil killers in history and we have plenty of evidence for this.
>>I hope this blood thirsty US worm will die and rotten in hell. This guy don't know that he is involve in, destruction of human lives and whatever he was trying to justify his involvement, he is a terrorist and ruthless inhuman evil man who support terrorism. I pray everyday people like this guy to rotten in hell. Every single dollar he earned and live and use for his family is evil money. Money earned in death and destruction of human lives. He will pay from his sins. Definitely.
►The US Charity Sending Weapons Funds To Syrian Rebels This August 28 post by Steve has a bewildering number of links. It's not spoiling the ending to say the Syrian Support Group doesn't look good under the lights.
►The Gang That Can't Shoot Straight
The Syrian National Council has failed to galvanize international support for the rebellion -- and it has only itself to blame...by Malik al-Abdeh, writing in Foreign Policy, a critique of the SNC.
►Amos Yadlin: Only bombing Assad's forces will stop the slaughter now
It need not become 'another Iraq' and the Syrian military challenge can be met
You knew it was coming. This is as close to an "Israeli position" as one needs to get. Did I mention players with money in the game but no skin seeking to influence the outcome? This last link reminds me of you-know-who, and which political types, broadcast media and political party might join the same chorus. I've tried to be fair and balanced in my reporting. To the extent that I failed it was in the interest of transparency and full disclosure.
There should be enough links here to keep the reader busy for a little while.
